The main reason to choose a 4 column radiator over a 2 column radiator or 3 column radiator is the heat output. The more columns a radiator has, the higher the heat output (BTU T50) will be and due to the additional columns, the 4 column radiator has superior surface area allowing more heat to transfer to the air than a radiator of the same width and height.
